Dr. Mottola believes that with education, commitment, connection (with Self/Community/Nature) and professional guidance when needed, we can be supported through any healing process in a way that leads to deeper trust, growth, resilience and greater balance and joy.
Dr. Mottola earned her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from The National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) in Portland OR, the nation's oldest nationally accredited four year post-graduate level naturopathic medical school. A life-long student of the perfection and beauty of the natural world, Dr. Mottola earned her bachelor's degree in Biology from Montclair State University where she graduated first in her class with high honors. During her undergraduate education, she had her first experience of healthcare done differently. She was nominated to travel to China with a group of pre-med students and medical doctors to study the philosophy and practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It was here that her passion for a different approach to healthcare was born. Years later she discovered naturopathic medicine when she met a naturopathic doctor near her hometown in southern New Jersey. She researched the principlesof this integral medicine and the educationinvolved in becoming a naturopathic doctor and realized that she had found a home for her purpose and a career that combined so many of her interests, values and passions. She jumped right in. While at NUNM, Dr. Mottola learned as much as she could about the social determinants of health, all things plant medicine, as well as spending most of her clinical rotation hours at community clinics that sought to provide integrative holistic medical care to underserved populations throughout the Portland metro area, like the incredible Outside In. After several years of clinical practice as well as some personal health challenges, Dr. Mottola's path led her to seek a different kind of support that complements naturopathic medicine so very well, an ancient form of healing called Plant Spirit Medicine. After a year of experiencing the profound shifts possible with Plant Spirit Medicine herself, she decided to enroll in Eliot Cowan's rigorous and heart-affirming two year training program to learn the art of Plant Spirit Medicine and began offering this incredible healing modality to clients in 2019.
Dr. Mottola has a passion for service, social justice, anti-racism, health education and environmental stewardship and is on a mission to provide effective, empowering, accessible natural health education and care to the most diverse population possible. She believes that accessible healthcare is a basic human right that stands as a pillar of a healthy society and that the health of a society is reflected in the health of its people. She is passionate about placing health care back in the hands of the people.
